It was founded in 2000 by two Washington State University electrical engineering professors; Clint Cole and Gene Apperson. Cole and Apperson saw a need for hands-on learning experience in the class lectures and developed the first programming board. Their vision is to offer innovative, high quality & state of the art educational and research tools at competitive price to inspire tomorrow’s engineers.

Digilent has been growing rapidly since its establishment in 2000. Digilent headquarters is located in Washington State and has regional offices in Taiwan, China, and Romania. Digilent offers over 180 products including FPGA development kits, microcontroller boards, programming solutions, analog electronics and others. Currently, over 1200 universities, training centers and research laboratories in more than 70 countries uses Digilent products and services. In addition, Digilent provides high-end OEM manufacturing services for leading technology companies including Xilinx, Cypress Semiconductor, Analog Devices and National Instruments.
