LED Backlit Flat Panel Displays and 3DTV

Artix™-7 and Kintex™-7 FPGAs offer capabilities that enable flat panel display manufacturers to improve image quality, reduce power consumption, and reduce cost. Implement complex local dimming and illumination compensation algorithms for LED backlighting controllers. Produce direct-type illumination displays with differing numbers of LED zones, as well as different arrangements of LEDs, while adjusting illumination to match the physical properties of panels produced by different suppliers. Add 3D capability to displays.

  • Reduce system FPGA power by 32% compared to implementation with previous generation FPGAs
  • Reduce system FPGA cost by 30% compared to implementation with previous generation FPGAs
  • 63% reduction in LED backlight controller power with implementation in Artix-7 20 FPGA
  • Flexible parallel and serial interface technologies enable chip-to-chip and board-to-board communication using PCI Express, USB 2.0, DisplayPort, and V-by-One technology
  • 8 lanes of at least 3.75Gbps for V-by-One HS today (per THine’s spec)
  • 4 lanes of at least 5.4Gbps for dual and triple-rate DisplayPort 1.1a (per VESA standard)
  • 2,133Mbps DDR3 memory interfaces enables video data buffers using commodity memories
  • 1.6Gbps LVDS I/O reduces the number of traces in parallel interfaces
  • Chip-scale packages for low-cost manufacturing with 4-layer PCBs
