Fast and Flexible Embedded Processing - FREE Hands-On Workshops
Attendees can register for one of two different in-booth workshops where you will get hands-on experience building basic embedded systems based on the flexible MicroBlaze soft processor core, or the high performance PowerPC hard processor core. The workshops include configuration of IP and bussing, leading to booting an embedded design on a real hardware development platform. Each session is 60 minutes long.

PowerPC Workshop: High Performance Design with the Embedded PowerPC™ and Co-Processor Code Accelerators

PowerPC Abstract: Today’s designers are constrained by space, power, and cost, and simply can not afford to implement embedded designs with Pentium class computers. Fortunately, in embedded systems, the greatest computational requirements are frequently determined by a relatively small number of algorithms. This hands-on workshop will demonstrate how to build a high performance embedded PowerPC system, and how computationally intensive tasks can be rapidly converted through design automation tools into hardware co-processors. These co-processors can then be efficiently interfaced to the offloaded PowerPC yielding “Pentium class performance.”

PowerPC Schedule: Tues 9/13 – 12noon, 2:30pm & 5pm, 9/14 – 11:15am & 1:45pm

MicroBlaze Workshop: Learn To Build and Optimize a MicroBlaze Soft Processor System in Minutes

MicroBlaze Abstract: In this workshop you will learn how to assemble a complete MicroBlaze soft processor system including peripherals. We will then compile a FIR filter application and profile the performance of this application. Next we will modify the base processor architecture to make the processor more efficient for this algorithm and reprofile the same application to examine the improvement in performance.

Schedule: Tues 9/13 – 1:15pm & 3:45pm, 9/14 – 10am, 12:30pm & 3pm
