This page provides an overview clarifying the main LogiCORE
IP license agreement types and their relationship to electronic
license keys.
Overview
When the term, "Xilinx LogiCORE IP License" is used,
it refers to one of the following:
- LogiCORE License Agreements
- Electronic License Keys
The LogiCORE legal license agreements are documents which state
the legal terms and conditions for both parties beyond what is stated
in the ISE and EDK software licenses. All Xilinx IP and LogiCOREs
are covered by a legal license agreement. This may be in the form
of signed paper documents, or some type of web-based "click
license".
The electronic license keys are FLEXlm license key files which
control what you can do with fee-based LogiCOREs from a Xilinx software
tool environment standpoint. The electronic license key is validated by the Xilinx software and enables you to actually
generate the core and use it to the extent allowed by your specific
license. As an example, the electronic license key may allow you
to generate the core, but may not allow you to create bitstreams
for designs containing the core.
Most of the less complex cores included with the ISE CORE Generator
software or the Xilinx Embedded Development Kit (EDK) are provided
at no additional charge. Such cores are covered by the ISE
End User license (ISE "EULA") and do not require installation
of a license key.
