Licenses for Fee-based Cores ("Full" License)
When you license a fee-based Xilinx® LogiCORE™ IP core, you must accept either a Project, or more commonly, Site License Agreement.

These licenses are legal agreements which state the conditions under which you may use the core. The licenses are based on the SignOnce license, which states a set of common licensing terms approved by the Common License Consortium for Intellectual Property. The SignOnce program greatly simplifies the IP licensing process for customers who wish to license IP from multiple providers.

In addition, most fee-based LogiCORE IP also require installation of an Electronic License Key.

Project Licenses

A LogiCORE IP which is licensed under a Project License restricts use of the Licensed Material to a single Project.

A Project is defined as either:

  • a single bitstream (using one or more instances of the Licensed Materials) that may then be used in one or more printed circuit boards, or
  • one or more bitstreams (using one or more instances of the Licensed Materials) used in a single printed circuit board.

"Full" Electronic License

In addition to the legal documents represented by the LogiCORE License Agreements, LogiCOREs delivered through the EDK (Embedded Development Kit) and CORE Generator™ tools may also be controlled by an Electronic License Key.

An "Full" electronic license key for a Fee-based core ("Full license") is an electronic file that enables full access to a core - simulation model and implementation netlist generation, place and route, and generation of a bitstream that can be used to program a Xilinx FPGA. Customers who license a Logicore controlled in this manner must generate the electronic license key for these cores in the appropriate password-protected Xilinx.com core-specific product lounge.

Lounge Access and License Key Generation

To generate a Full electronic license key, you must first register for access to the product lounge for the core on /ipcenter using the Serial Number that is mailed to you when you purchase a license for the core. The access request is reviewed by Xilinx Customer Service, and access is granted when your purchase has been confirmed. Lounge access is granted for a period of 1 year from the purchase date.

Once your access has been approved, you need to log in to the product lounge, and fill out the license key generation web form ifor the core with your host ID or MAC address information. The license is emailed to you automatically after you submit this information. You must then install the license on your host machine following the instructions included with the email document.

The license generator page can only generate an electronic license for a single host for currently supported versions of the core. There is no limit on the number of licenses you can generate for a Fee-based core for one year, as long as the host machines reside within the "licensed site" (in the case of the Site License agreement), or are part of the "project" defined in the Project License agreement.

Each electronic license key generated for a Fee-based core is a perpetual license which enables you to access the previously released revisions of that particular Xilinx LogiCORE as well as the latest version of the core that was available at the time the license key was generated.

IP Lounge access allows you to generate electronic licenses for any new released versions of that LogiCORE for a period of one year. At the end of this 1-year period, you must purchase an annual maintenance contract to maintain access to the lounge.
