FPGAs come in various packages such as BG, PG, FG, PQ, and CS. The Package Pins window displays the spatial layout of the pins in a package. For example, the pins in BG packages are arranged in a grid, while the pins in PQ packages are arranged along the periphery.
Select Package Pins from the View menu to open the Package Pins window.
The Package Pins window displays the package pins associated with your selected package. You can use the mouse to drag and drop I/Os into the Package Pins window. Pins already floorplanned by you are displayed in the same color used in the Design Hierarchy window.
Placed I/O symbols are shown in filled color circles. The same color as shown in Design Hierarchy window is used in the Package Pins window.
Available pins are shown in empty circles with light gray border.
Special pins are shown with special symbols according to the Package Pin Legend.
You can park the cursor on a pin to display a data tip with the pin name and pin type. If a symbol is placed in the selected location, the symbol name is also shown.
You can turn off data tips with the Tool Tips option in the Logic tab of the Preferences dialog box.
Selecting a placed I/O symbol, highlights the I/O symbol in the Device Architecture, Design Hierarchy and Design Object List windows. Selecting an I/O in any view, displays the I/O as selected in all other views.
To display bottom or top view, right click the mouse in the Package Pins window to display the popup menu, and select the appropriate command.
I/O banks are displayed by default. To disable the display of I/O banks, select the Show I/O Banks command from the IOBs menu. All the pins belonging to a particular bank are displayed in the same background color.
Differential pairs are displayed by a red line between the pins in the pair. To enable the display of differential pairs, select the Show Differential Pairs command from the IOBs menu. The display of differential pairs is off by default.
You can drag and drop I/Os from the Design Hierarchy window to the Package Pins window. You can also move I/Os around in the Package Pin window.
You can prohibit or allow user I/O by selecting Prohibit and Allow modes in the Tools menu.
