PCI and PCI-X Technology

PCI™ (Peripheral Component Interconnect technology is an extremely popular bus standard for personal and industrial computers, communication switches, routers, and instrumentation. It solves many compatibility problems and performance limitations experienced with the older ISA and VME standards.

PCI-X™ technology is an extension of the PCI standard that doubles the clock speed from 66 MHz to 133 MHz, improving the data rate by 2X.

All Xilinx IP cores for PCI and PCI-X technologies operate at maximum throughput, with zero wait-state bursts. For example, the 64-bit Initiator/Target for PCI solution allows you to create 64-bit PCI systems that operate at up to 66 MHz, delivering a sustained throughput of up to 528 Mbytes per second, the maximum possible performance from PCI. Our 32-bit Initiator/Target cores support up to 132 Mbytes per second.
