Xilinx has a legacy of parallel cable products for connecting to Xilinx device systems and this same technology is being implemented to interface both the hardware and software debuggers to Platform FPGA embedded systems.

This connection product is called the Xilinx Parallel Cable IV and will be used for a multitude of activities. This cable connects the parallel port of an engineer's Workstation/PC to the JTAG connection of the target system. This single cable solution will allow users to download code compiled by the GNU GCC software compiler to the target system as well as support hardware debug, software debug and run time control of the target system. The software debugger supported is GNU GDB and the hardware debugger is the ChipScope™ tool.
