FAQs for Android App

Q. What are the minimum requirements to run the Xilinx PPE app on an Android Platform?

A. The minimum requirements for PPE v1.2 on the Android platform are:

  • Hardware:
    • Recommended Android Phone:
      • Display with 320 pixel by 480 pixel resolution
      • CPU speed of 600 MHz or higher
      • 256 MB of RAM or higher
  • Software:
    • Recommended Software version:
      • Android OS 2.3 (aka Gingerbread) on the Motorola or Samsung Platforms
  • What we have tested:
    • Display up to 480 pixel by 800 pixel resolution
    • CPU speed up to 1,000 MHz
    • RAM size up to 512 MB
    • Android OS 2.2 (Froyo) and 2.3 (Gingerbread)
    • Phones manufactured by Motorola, HTC, Samsung, and LG
      • Users with HTC Sense UI with Android 2.2 may see varied results with text input fields.

Q. Which version of the engineering data is used in Android PPE?

A. Both the Android OS and iOS version of PPE currently use data obtained from Xilinx Power Estimator (XPE) v 13.2.

Q. There seems to be both cosmetic and performance differences between the Android and iOS PPE. Why do they perform differently? What are the cosmetic issues? What will be fixed?

A. Because Android phones come in many different sizes, UI platforms, with differing service carrier restrictions, the appearance of the app can vary from device to device. Some users can experience uneven font size with some text labels. Others might see differences in slider bar highlight colors. None of these affect the way the PPE application works. We are documenting each issue and will fix them in the next release.

The performance speed variation is caused by an intentional pause on the bar-graph refresh time, which was added to cover even the slowest devices. A short pause between resource count adjustments is perfectly normal.

Q. What important updates are being worked on for the next version of PPE?

A. Besides the small cosmetic issues, our primary goal is to implement updated engineering data into the next release on both Android and iOS version PPE. Our development team is adding features to push updated data directly to your mobile device—so you will always have the latest data on hand.

Q. How should I submit a bug I found on Pocket Power Estimator?

A. Submit your findings to: mobile_developer@xilinx.com.
