Xilinx Press Release # 06100
FOR IMMEDIATE RELEASE
RED RIBBON SPONSOR XILINX GEARS UP
FOR 17TH ANNUAL WALK FOR AIDS SILICON VALLEY
SAN JOSE, Calif., October 3, 2006 – Xilinx, Inc. (NASDAQ: XLNX) today announced that hundreds of employees, along with their families and friends, will again join more than 1,000 walkers at the Walk for AIDS Silicon Valley on Sunday, October 15, 2006 at Discovery Meadows in downtown San Jose. Registration opens at 8 a.m.
Anyone interested in joining the Walk for AIDS Silicon Valley or donating should visit: http://www.aidscoalition.org/, or contact Walk for AIDS Silicon Valley at 408-451-WALK. Proceeds from the walk are donated to the various member agencies of the AIDS Coalition Silicon Valley (ACSV) to support HIV/AIDS services and prevention programs in the Santa Clara County.
“For those who think that HIV/AIDS is on the wane, the statistics say otherwise,” said Wim Roelandts, chairman, CEO and president of Xilinx. “More than 38.6 million people are afflicted with this devastating illness worldwide and some 22 million people died of the disease from 1981 to 2005. The story in our own backyard in Silicon Valley isn’t any better. One of the best means for impacting these statistics is through awareness and prevention – and that, in part, is what our dollars do when we donate our time and money for the Walk for AIDS Silicon Valley.”
The Xilinx commitment to the fight against AIDS spans more than 16 years, commencing with 10 walkers and $350 in sponsorship donations. Since then, the company has become a major sponsor and the largest Silicon Valley corporate fundraiser, with cumulative support involving more than 2,300 employees, family and friends of Xilinx. Just last year, contributions from Xilinx in the Walk for AIDS Silicon Valley totaled $51,700. To kick off the company’s participation, Xilinx hosts a variety of employee events at its San Jose headquarters each year.
In addition, Xilinx and the AIDS Coalition Silicon Valley (ACSV) host an annual “Unmasks the Mysteries” Mardi Gras Gala and Awards of Distinction fundraising event at the Triton Museum of Art in Santa Clara. Building on a very successful inaugural event held in 2005, business, civic leaders and supporters of the AIDS Coalition came together again in May 2006 to unmask the facts of this devastating disease and to generate critical funding necessary to support community service providers, raising a total of $116K.
