TOKYO JAPAN, November 7, 2006 − Xilinx, Inc., (NASDAQ: XLNX), the world leader in programmable logic solutions, today announced their participation as the industry’s first FPGA supplier to debut solutions at the International Broadcasting Equipment Exhibition 2006 (Inter BEE2006), sponsored by JETA (the Japan Electronics and Information Technology Industries Association) held in Makuhari Messe, Tokyo November 15 -17, Hall 3, Booth #3310. Xilinx exhibits include HD-SDI and AES3 Audio & SRC solutions enabled by their latest 65nm Virtex™-5 and award-winning 90nm Virtex-4 families.

Xilinx FPGA-based solutions received tremendous attention at IBC 2006 (International Broadcasting Conference) held in Amsterdam in September 2006. The company’s programmable solutions have been widely adopted by professional broadcast manufacturers, including Panasonic’s latest HD digital video camera recorder.

Xilinx Booth Demonstrations:
Xilinx will showcase their cutting-edge FPGA-based solutions for interface, connectivity, codec and audio/video processing fields.

  • HD-SDI and AES3 & SRC: Utilizing Virtex-5 and Virtex-4. Demonstration featuring HD-SDI development board ML571 enabled by 65nm Virtex-5 LXT launched in October 2006. ML571 supports a wide range of serial digital video format with SMPTE292M, SMPTE259M and DVB-ASI, including new 3Gbps SDI, dual link HD-SDI and AES/EBU audio format. AES3 and high quality sample rate conversion using a free reference design will also be demonstrated.
  • Video development platform: This demonstration highlights the capabilities of Xilinx Virtex solutions for broadcast quality video processing developed in partnership with IPT (Image Processing Techniques Ltd., UK).  IPT will also introduce the next generation of advanced video processing platform incorporating PCI Express embedded in a 65nm Virtex-5 LXT. The high quality finished form of this platform allows direct installation without modification. Initial product shipments are planned for first quarter 2007.
  • H.264 encoder/decoder: Produced by 4i2i Communications Ltd. (UK) and targeting Virtex-4 and Virtex-5 FPGAs. 4i2i Communications will present a Main Profile HD H.264 Baseline Profile encoder streaming compressed video over RTP to an HD H.264 High Profile decoder. Both the encoder and decoder run on the ADM-XRC platform from Alpha Data.
  • Video over IP: Highlighting the embedded features of the Virtex-4 platform including high speed I/O, Ethernet MACs and high performance processors, the new Video-over-IP reference designs provide a flexible and highly integrated bridge between multiple DVB-ASI streams and Gigabit Ethernet packets
