Xilinx Press Release # 0641
POSEIDON JOINS XILINX ESL INITIATIVE San Jose, CA – March 13, 2006 – Poseidon Design Systems today announced its support for the scope and vision of the Xilinx ESL Initiative – a collaborative campaign aimed at accelerating the adoption of higher level design methodologies for programmable system design. As a natural extension of its on-going efforts to optimize the ease of use and quality of results (QoR) of its Triton Tuner and Builder tool suite for the Xilinx ISE™ tool flow, Poseidon has added its support for what it sees as a mutually beneficial opportunity to educate and empower their customers. In concert with that vision, Poseidon has optimized its Triton tool suite to enable Xilinx FPGA designers using the Auxiliary Processor Unit (Virtex™-4 family only) or high-speed local bus controller to automatically generate hardware accelerator modules. By making the Triton tools complimentary to the ISE tool flow, Poseidon has streamlined the architectural simulation, identification of system performance bottlenecks and the mechanics of partitioning and implementing hardware acceleration. These tools support PowerPC™ 405 and MicroBlaze™ processors targeted for signal processing applications such asaudio, video, VoIP, imaging, wireless, and security. “Providing higher levels of productivity and performance through innovative ESL technologies is the premise upon which Poseidon was founded,” said Ravi Janak, president and CEO of Poseidon Design Systems. “We are delighted to work with Xilinx in support of the ESL Initiative as we continue to define, expand and communicate the role of ESL for the FPGA designer.” The Triton Tools environment un-intrusively augments existing FPGA design flows to optimize performance, power, and cost of processor-based architectures. Triton Tuner gives Xilinx FPGA designers the ability to rapidly evaluate their architectures much earlier in the design effort, thus uncovering performance bottlenecks and eliminating costly architectural rework later in the project. Triton Builder enables designers to rapidly and predictably partition their hardware and software, adding sophisticated hardware acceleration modules to accelerate algorithmic computation. Tuner and Builder are compatible with the Platform Studio tool suite included in the Xilinx Embedded Development Kit. Poseidon’s tools also support many of the Xilinx development boards such as Xilinx ML310, ML403, and ML410. Poseidon’s easy-to-learn tools enable system designers and software developers to quickly assess and enhance the performance of their designs on these platforms. “ESL is a broad and growing category of design automation encompassing a seemingly endless variety of opportunities and challenges for the engineering community,” said Farzad Zarrinfar, vice president of Worldwide Sales and Marketing for Poseidon Design Systems. “The Xilinx ESL Initiative paves the way for a synergistic effort to clarify and refine the unique role ESL will play in the evolution of FPGA-based programmable system design. Perhaps more importantly, ESL promises to expand the accessibility of FPGA design to software engineers and system architects for whom hardware design languages hold little value. To that end, we view the ESL Initiative as a welcome forum through which everyone can benefit.” “Poseidon’s ESL tool development strategy aligns with the fundamental tenets and vision of the ESL Initiative – optimized processor support, maximized QoR, improved ease of use, and design flow interoperability,” said Steve Lass, director of software product marketing at Xilinx. “As such, we are pleased to have their support and participation in the ESL Initiative, and look forward to their continued collaboration as we endeavor to extend the value of ESL to our mutual customers.” Pricing and Availability About Poseidon Design Systems About Xilinx ESL Initiative
