XILINX ENABLES POINT GREY RESEARCH TO DEVELOP
WORLD’S
SMALLEST FIREWIRE CAMERA
Xilinx Spartan Family of FPGAs deliver low cost and time-to
market benefits
for digital video applications
SAN JOSE, Calif., February 05, 2002 - Xilinx, Inc.,
(NASDAQ:XLNX), today announced that Point Grey Research, a leading
designer and manufacturer of advanced vision technologies, has
begun production of the world’s smallest IEEE-1394 board level
CCD camera. An OEM version of the Point Grey Dragonfly, the camera
achieves it’s ultra-small package by utilizing Xilinx Spartan
FPGAs to implement CCD timing, data buffering, external lighting,
advanced asynchronous trigger and IEEE-1394 link layer functions.
Because it is based on FPGA technology, the camera is completely
reprogrammable via the 1394 interface allowing simple field upgradeability.
Point Grey is one of the many companies utilizing Xilinx low-cost
FPGAs to gain a competitive advantage in digital video applications
using the IEEE-1394 link layer functionality.
“We’ve been using Xilinx FPGAs for four years and
the features and benefits of their products (hardware, development
software, intellectual property and support) are unparalleled,”
said Rod Barman, president of Point Grey Research.
“Increasingly, Xilinx low-cost Spartan family of
FPGAs are being used in a wide range of digital video applications,”
said Robert Bielby, senior director of strategic solutions marketing
at Xilinx. “Point Grey’s latest IEEE-1394 board level camera is
a great illustration of the level of integration and capabilities
the Spartan FPGA family delivers to a very unique digital video
application.”
