XILINX SELECTED AS FINALIST FOR BEST OF SHOW AWARD
AT EMBEDDED SYSTEMS CONFERENCE

Low cost programmable Spartan Series chips enable the Gibson MaGIC
Digital Guitar - Industry's first electric guitar to deliver true digital sound

SAN FRANCISCO, Calif., April 22, 2003 - Xilinx, Inc. (NASDAQ: XLNX), today announced that the Xilinx enabled Gibson MaGIC Digital Guitar has been selected as a finalist for the Best of Show award at the Embedded Systems Conference San Francisco, to be held April 22-26-at the Moscone Convention Center. With more than 11,500 attendees and over 300 exhibitors anticipated, the Embedded Systems Conference is renown for showcasing the most innovative technological breakthroughs in embedded electronics design. The Xilinx enabled guitar will be on display in Xilinx booth #1813 April 23 - 26, 2003.

Gibson's internally derived MaGIC digital transfer protocol converts traditional analog output from the guitar into a digital signal, providing real time high-fidelity digital audio to benefit both production and live performances. Gibson credits Xilinx's reprogrammable Spartan-IIE FPGAs as an enabling critical component in its groundbreaking guitar. Gibson is among a growing number of consumer product manufacturers to realize the competitive advantage afforded by Xilinx's low-cost programmable chips, versus traditional ASIC technology.

A prestigious panel of judges, including Lindsey Vereen, editorial director, Embedded Systems Programming, Jim Turley, microprocessor analyst and editor of Silicon-Insider, Daya Nadamuni, principal analyst, Gartner Dataquest, Larry Mittag, contributing editor, Embedded Systems Programming, and Bernie Cole, managing editor, EE Times selected the finalists from a total of 30 entries, all featuring embedded technology in end-user applications. The Best of Show winner will be announced at booth 238 at 6:00 p.m. on Wednesday, April 23.
