XILINX, INTERATIVA, AND BIRGER ENGINEERING COLLABORATE
TO DELIVER 68 BILLION COLOR LED DISPLAY SYSTEM
SAN JOSE, Calif., April 23, 2003 - Xilinx, Inc. (NASDAQ:XLNX) today announced
that Interativa Paineis Eletronicos (http://www.interativapaineis.com.br),
a leading manufacturer of LED displays headquartered in Brazil, selected
Xilinx Spartan Series and Virtex-II Platform FPGAs, featuring the MicroBlaze
32-bit soft processor core, for its recently launched 68 billion color
LED display system. The display is capable of rendering more than 68 Billion
different shades of color. While this color depth far exceeds what the
human eye can discriminate, it allows for very accurate reproduction of
images in a variety of environments, such as bright sunlight, fluorescent
lighting, or near darkness. For a demonstration of Xilinx's enabling technology,
including the latest MicroBlaze 32-bit soft processor core, visit Booth
#1813 at the Embedded Systems Conference in San Francisco, Calif., April
23 - 26, 2003.
Interativa worked closely with Birger Engineering, Inc., a Xilinx XPERTS
partner and leading provider of image processing and compression algorithms,
to implement its video processor module and LED driver board. The first
large scale prototype display was completed in January of 2003, and currently
resides in Foz do Igaucu, Brazil.
"Xilinx provides a wide range of high performance, low cost logic
solutions. We were able to pinpoint the right part for the right functionality
across the board," said Eng. Ricardo Ramos, president and CEO of
Interativa Paineis Eletronicos. "This was true for the panel processor,
where the small footprint and low cost Spartan-IIE FPGA could be employed.
For the main processor, we selected the high performance Virtex-II Platform
FPGA - with its triple DES encryption, we were assured that the bitstream
could not be pirated."
"The broad adoption of FPGAs in a wide range of high performance,
cost sensitive applications such as the Interativa display, demonstrates
the increasing market demand for programmable devices that deliver ASIC-level
functionality and performance that affords a greater level of flexibility
and cost-effectiveness," said Sandeep Vij, vice president of Worldwide
Marketing at Xilinx. "In today's economy, Xilinx FPGAs are the ideal
solution to bring tomorrow's programmable system designs to market."
