FOR IMMEDIATE RELEASE
XILINX ANNOUNCES NEW METRO ACCESS
NETWORKING
SEGMENT ON eSP WEB PORTAL
Industry's only online resource dedicated to designing products
for the MAN market
SAN JOSE, Calif., July 22, 2002 - Xilinx Inc. (NASDAQ:XLNX),
announced today the release of a new segment on the Xilinx® eSP
Web portal dedicated to accelerating the development of metro area
and edge access networking products. Launch of the metro access
networking (MAN) segment (www.xilinx.com/esp/optical),
coincides with the Metro Optical Networking Forum this week on July
25 at the Santa Clara Convention Center in Santa Clara, Calif. The
free one-day event will include presentations from leaders and visionaries
from throughout the Metro Optical Networking community. Delivering
an unparalleled array of solutions and information in a single location,
the new MAN portal provides users with networking solutions ranging
from specific reference designs to intellectual property resulting
from collaboration with a wide range of industry leaders.
High performance capabilities are critical in metro
area networking, a market that is expected to grow to $23.6 billion
in 2005 according to Cahners In-Stat/MDR. Earlier this year, Xilinx
introduced the Virtex-II Pro™ FPGA, a high performance programmable
device ideal for this emerging market. Combining the Xilinx Virtex-II
feature set with a 405 PowerPC and 3.125 Gb/s Rocket I/O, the Virtex-II
Pro provides up to 2000 Dhrystone MIPS and up to 1200 I/O with up
to 120 Gb/s payload processing.
Xilinx eSP (www.xilinx.com/esp)
is a proven resource for engineers, with four million visits since
its introduction early last year. The site is also a rich source
of information including networking technology tutorials, market
overviews, system block diagrams, and extensive glossaries.
"The current disparity in bandwidth between the corporate
LAN and the WAN continues to fuel product development in the MAN
space," said Robert Bielby, senior director of Strategic Solutions
at Xilinx. "Bridging this gap is placing unprecedented demands on
silicon solutions and flexibility as a wide range of new and emerging
standards must be supported. Xilinx is committed to delivering resources
such as the eSP Web portal and Metro-Optical Networking Forum to
assist our customers in successfully developing their products in
today's uncertain market."
About the Metro-Optical Networking Forum
The Metro-Optical Networking Forum on July 25, 2002 will be held
at the Santa Clara Convention Center and simulcast live to over
45 cities across North America. This free one-day event addresses
the challenges of designing and developing products for the metro
area and edge access networks. Attendees will hear first hand
from industry experts on where this dynamic market is headed,
as well as the technologies driving the success in the MAN space,
and see forward thinking solutions developed by cutting-edge
companies that solve the technical challenges faced by designers.
