SAN JOSE, Calif., November 6, 2002 —Xilinx, Inc., (NASDAQ: XLNX) today announced that Siemens VDO Trading GmbH, a worldwide leader in developing innovative automotive electronic products, selected Xilinx Spartan-II FPGAs for its latest VDO Dayton automotive entertainment system. The VDO Dayton CD 4802 offers an integrated entertainment system including a CD tuner with integrated MP3, 3D display, internal amplifier, and hands free phone in. Xilinx will be highlighting the VDO Dayton unit at the Electronica trade fair, November 12-15, in Hall C2, stand A13, Messe Munchen GmbH.

The CD 4802 system incorporates a multitude of intelligent features including dash-mounted control/display unit and car speaker system, providing hands free phone support, parking distance warnings, and car computer functions such as trip data, navigational information and safety notices. The Xilinx FPGAs are utilized to provide key driver and audio control functions for the high-end system, including memory interface and bridging between the CD drive and on-board processor.  Siemens VDO is among the growing number of companies using Xilinx FPGAs to gain a competitive advantage in the telematics market.
