Membership in JPEG committee strengthens Xilinx presence
in digital image processing applications
SAN JOSE, Calif., February 19, 2002 Xilinx,
Inc. (NASDAQ:XLNX), today announced its membership in the Joint
Photographics Experts Group (JPEG) Committee, a group of experts
selected by both national standard bodies and major companies
working to produce standards for image coding and imaging
systems. One of the key initiatives is JPEG2000, intended
to provide a new image coding system using state of the art
compression techniques, based on the use of wavelet technology.

“Member companies such as Xilinx, strengthen and
illustrate the continued diversity of JPEG2000, which consist
of many different organizations that together help make JPEG2000
a successful standard for image compression,” said Dr. Daniel
Lee of Yahoo! Inc., and the WG 1 Convenor. “It is a pleasure
to have Xilinx as an active member of the JPEG committee.”
“Xilinx’s involvement as the Chair of the JPEG2000
Implementation Study Group reflects our commitment to bridge
the gap between system and standards specification and efficient
implementation” said Ivo Bolsens, vice president and chief technology
officer at Xilinx. “Our participation in the JPEG committee
provides us with an in-depth understanding of the implementation
requirements for digital image processing applications and enables
our deployment and delivery of solutions that satisfy market
requirements”
