FOR IMMEDIATE RELEASE
XILINX EXTENDS AEROSPACE AND DEFENSE MARKET LEADERSHIP
WITH DELIVERY OF ADVANCED DEVICE FOR QPRO PRODUCT FAMILY
Industry's first programmable logic devices with
integrated PowerPC processor cores and high-speed SERDES transceivers
for use in aerospace and defense applications
Phoenix, AZ., January 25, 2005 - Xilinx, Inc. (NASDAQ: XLNX), the
world's leading programmable logic solutions provider, today announced
its roadmap for the QPROTM family of aerospace and defense products
at the Xilinx Aerospace and Defense Forum. At the first in a series
of events taking place nationwide throughout the year, Xilinx announced
immediate availability of the industry's first military temperature-qualified
FPGA with an embedded processor core, and foreshadowed delivery
of additional devices in the second half of 2005 with full military
temperature operation and radiation tolerance.
Today's major, transformational defense programs require the advanced
features, high performance and flexibility of Xilinx Virtex-II ProTM
and Virtex-4 TM platform FPGA architectures. The company has extended
the QPRO family of devices to include the Virtex-II Pro XQ2VP40
(43,632 logic cells) and XQ2VP70 (74,448 logic cells). Each device
has two PowerPC embedded processor cores along with multiple integrated
RocketIOTM transceiver blocks. Later this year, the QPRO family
will be further extended to include Virtex-4 SX and FX devices.
"Xilinx remains steadfast in its commitment to R&D efforts
that will put the most advanced programmable solutions in the hands
of aerospace and defense engineers for next-generation system design,"
stated Howard Bogrow, marketing manager for Aerospace and Defense
products at Xilinx. "This technology is gaining increasing
acceptance in the entire range of programs as designers are recognizing
the value and importance of reconfigurable FPGAs."
At today's conference, Xilinx also disclosed that its Aerospace
and Defense Research and Development team is in the initial stages
of evaluating the feasibility of applying rad-hard-by-design techniques
to its most advanced families of Virtex FPGAs, with an ultimate
goal of delivering a single event upset-immune reprogrammable FPGA
for space. The radiation testing of the radiation tolerant versions
is being conducted by the Single Event Effects Consortium, formed
in 2002 by Xilinx and notable government and private industry representatives.
Pricing and Availability
The XQ2VP40 is available now in both the FG676 and FF1152 plastic
ball grid array packages and the XQ2VP70 will be available in the
FF1704 ball grid array. The pricing for the XQ2VP40 in the FG676
is $1236.00 for 100-unit quantities.
