FOR IMMEDIATE RELEASE
XILINX EXTENDS QUALITY LEADERSHIP WITH
ISO/TS 16949 AUTOMOTIVE CERTIFICATION
Execution on aggressive quality roadmap results in firm lead
- Industry's only PLD Supplier to achieve full compliance to ISO
9001, TL 9000, QML, ISO 14001, and ISO/TS 16949 certification
SAN JOSE, Calif., April 25, 2005 - Xilinx, Inc. (NASDAQ: XLNX),
the world's leading supplier of programmable logic solutions, today
announced it has achieved certification for Automotive Industry
Quality Standard ISO/TS 16949. The ISO/TS 16949 standard enables
Xilinx to supply electronic components with the highest levels of
quality and reliability throughout the automotive supply chain.
Xilinx has already met the rigorous requirements of other world-class
quality standards including ISO 9001, TL 9000, and QML
"Xilinx believes that compliance to this and other leading
industry quality systems standards benefits all our customers and
partners throughout the entire supply chain through improved product
and process quality," said Dr. Evert Wolsheimer, vice president
of Quality and Reliability at Xilinx. "Our TS 16949 certification
represents a critical milestone in our strategic quality roadmap
and I'm pleased to say we achieved our goal ahead of schedule. Because
we already had stringent procedures, strong leadership, and a solid
infrastructure in place, the certification process was extremely
short and painless."
According to IMS Research, the PLD TAM in the automotive market
for in-car audio, infotainment and driver information/telematics
is expected to reach $449.3 million by 2010. "Telematics and
infotainment is forcing an industry rethink about the products and
systems architected into a typical connected car. New requirements
carried across from the consumer industry are forcing the need for
flexible architectures that can cope with not only current applications
but future and possible unknown features," said Jon Cropley,
Senior Analyst at IMS Research, a leading market research firm located
in London, England. "Combining flexible solutions with TS 16949
certification will most certainly help Xilinx maintain its leading
position as the PLD supplier of choice for automotive manufacturers."
Xilinx in Automotive
Xilinx is already the leading PLD provider to the automotive market,
with many programmable devices "on the road" in areas
such as GPS, infotainment, communication, driver assistance and
comfort applications. The new XA product line introduced Fall 2004,
is the only programmable logic line to meet the Automotive Electronics
Council AEC-Q100 qualification flow, full support of the Automotive
Industry's Production Part Approval Process (PPAP) provision, and
full compliance to the ISO-TS16949 specification, a key requirement
for automotive customers worldwide.
Consistent with the company's commitment to the automotive market,
Xilinx recently established a product division staffed with industry
veterans dedicated to understanding and delivering to the stringent
quality and delivery requirements of the automotive market. Xilinx
also helps drive automotive device quality as an active member of
the Automotive Electronics Council, the steering committee that
defined the AEC-Q100 standard.
About ISO/TS 16949
Members of the International Automotive Task Force (IATF), which
includes leading automotive manufacturers and their trade associations,
developed ISO/TS 16949. This standard defines the quality system
elements required for automotive suppliers based on ISO 9001:2000,
AVSQ (Italian), EAQF (French), QS-9000 (US) and VDA6.1 (German)
automotive standards. This document together with any customer-specific
requirements defines the quality system requirements used in the
automotive supply chain.
About the XA Family
The XA line consists of both FPGA and CPLD devices, providing significant
flexibility for automotive device designers. The FPGA devices are
available in densities ranging from 50,000 to 1,500,000 system gates
in a variety of packages and the CPLD devices range in density from
32 to 384 macrocells with I/O ranging from 33 to 184. Xilinx XA
devices operate over the extended temperate range with both Q-Grade
(-40oC to +125oC) and I-Grade (-40oC to +100oC) devices. The XA
product line is complimented by a suite of intellectual property
(IP) optimized for the automotive market, including communications
and connectivity cores, such as Controller Area Network (CAN) and
Local Interconnect Network (LIN) IP cores and reference designed
provided by Xilinx LogicCores and Xilinx AllianceCORE partners.
