FOR IMMEDIATE RELEASE
XILINX SHIPS INDUSTRY'S FIRST
FPGA-BASED SOLUTION FOR HYPERTRANSPORT APPLICATIONS
Solution ideally suited for bridging HyperTransport-based NPUs
to other interfaces
in next generation storage and networking infrastructure systems
SAN JOSE, Calif., July 15, 2002- Xilinx, Inc. (NASDAQ:XLNX)
today announced the immediate availability of its new HyperTransport™
single-ended slave intellectual property (IP) cores for use with
the company's Virtex®-II Platform FPGAs. Now, designers of networking
and storage systems have an off-the-shelf, flexible solution that
supports HyperTransport interface requirement. The Xilinx® HyperTransport
core and other Xilinx Platform FPGA SystemIO solutions creates
an ultimate connectivity platform, helping customers to preserve
their investment in legacy designs by seamlessly bridging between
new and mature interfaces such a HyperTransport to Peripheral Component
Interconnect (PCI). For complete information about the HypersTransport
solution, visit http://www.xilinx.com/connectivity.
"The new Xilinx HyperTransport FPGA-based solution
will further accelerate the adoption of HyperTransport I/O technology,"
said Gabriele Sartori, president of the HyperTransport Technology
Consortium. "Designers can build an extremely fast connection that
complements existing popular bus standards such as the PCI, as well
as emerging serial technologies such as Gigabit Ethernet."
The new cores can also be used to achieve applications
such as a 4-port HyperTransport switch, and packet processing, high-end
SSL security content processing through interfacing with third-party
network processors.
"We welcome Xilinx FPGA products to the HyperTransport
Consortium infrastructure family," said Tom Riordan, vice president
and general manager of PMC-Sierra's MIPS Processor Division. "By
combining off-the-shelf and standard HyperTransport interfaces with
devices such as PMC-Sierra's RM9000x2 integrated processor, OEM
customers gain increased design flexibility as well as high speed
access to the datapath in networking applications."
Rina Raman, director of the Advanced Product Division
Application Engineering at Xilinx, will present details on the
Xilinx solution during the HyperTransport technical track session
at the Platform Conference on July 17, 2002. More details regarding
this session can be found at http://www.xilinx.com/events/tradeshows/plat_conf2002.htm.
Xilinx HyperTransport Solution
HyperTransport is a high-speed, high-performance, point-to-point
interconnect technology designed to enable the PC, communication
and networking devices to communicate with each other up to 48 times
faster than with existing technologies. As a contributor member
of the HyperTransport Technology Consortium, Xilinx worked closely
with the consortium to deliver a solution that is fully compliant
with the HyperTransport electrical and protocol specifications.
The solution includes the 800Mbps single-ended slave core, and reference
designs for the configurable address decode, configuration status
register logic, and reset module.
The Ultimate Connectivity Platform
Today's news emphasizes Xilinx's commitment to provide its customers
with the ultimate connectivity platform and interface solutions
for bridging parallel and serial interfaces. Customers can preserve
their legacy interface investments by leveraging Xilinx's wide range
of leading-edge system interconnect solutions.
License Price and Availability
The HyperTransport single-ended core is available as LogiCORE™ products
under the terms of the SignOnce IP license and is downloadable
via the web at http://www.xilinx.com/hypertransport.
The site license price for the HyperTransport core is $25,000. This
core is available for use in Virtex-II Platform FPGAs and 4.2i SP3
or later versions of Xilinx software are required.
About Next Week's Metro-Optical Networking Forum
HyperTransport consortium will be demonstrating its technology
in the upcoming Metro-Optical Networking Forum. Xilinx, along
with other industry leaders, will also host a free one-day event
on July 25, 2002 in Santa Clara, Calif., to address the challenges
of designing and developing products for the metro area and edge
access networks. Industry leaders and visionaries will provide
attendees with a compelling view of the future of where this
dynamic market is headed, giving them a firsthand look at key
technologies and product solutions that will drive success in
the MAN market place. For additional information regarding event
location and agenda, go to http://www.xilinx.com/metro.
