In his position as Senior Vice President, Mr. Charney's primary
responsibility is to serve as an advisor to corporations and governments
worldwide, communicating Cisco's strategy and vision and helping
people understand how the Internet can be used to build a competitive
advantage. Mr. Charney is an operating officer by background with
more than 30 years experience in the networking business and computer
industry. Before joining Cisco, Mr. Charney was the founder, president
and CEO of Grand Junction Networks, the inventor of Fast Ethernet
and low-cost switching, which was acquired by Cisco in September
1995. Mr. Charney was also a co-founder of 3Com Corporation where
he held a range of executive positions. He earned his B.S. and
M.S. degrees in mechanical engineering from Massachusetts Institute
of Technology, and his M.B.A. and J.D. from Santa Clara University.
