XILINX FPGA EMBEDDED PROCESSING PLATFORM STUDIO
WINS PRESTIGIOUS DESIGNVISION AWARD FROM IEC
Industry-Leading Embedded Development Suite Recognized
for
Outstanding Innovation and Market Impact
SAN JOSE, Calif., February 7, 2005 - Xilinx, Inc. (NASDAQ: XLNX)
today announced that its pioneering Xilinx Platform Studio (XPS)
embedded tool suite received top honors at the inaugural International
Engineering Consortium (IEC) DesignVision Award reception held last
week at the DesignCon Conference in Santa Clara, Calif. Judged by
independent industry experts, XPS was selected in the FPGA/PLD Design
Tools category for its innovation, uniqueness, market impact, customer
benefits and value to society.
"It is inspiring to see that Platform Studio is being recognized
in this way. The platform approach to next-generation embedded systems
will become the only viable solution to meet the economic and technological
challenges of the future," said Jerry Worchel, principal analyst
at In-Stat/MDR. "Xilinx continues to prove its undeniable leadership
in developing world-class technologies that make FPGAs a compelling
system platform for an expanding range of embedded processing applications."
Platform Studio 6.3i automates a host of architecture-level design
steps to accelerate embedded hardware/software platform development,
including automatic generation of device drivers and board support
packages customized to the user-defined hardware. A key breakthrough
of the XPS environment is its ability to abstract or hide excessive
system details. Setting the pace for embedded platform design flexibility
and control, the XPS approach simplifies the development process
without restricting designer innovation. This intelligent, robust
tool suite empowers users to quickly configure and debug custom
embedded processing platforms with associated software on time and
under budget.
"Receiving this award is truly an honor, and further validates
our vision for establishing programmable technology as the key enabler
for embedded platform development," commented Wim Roelandts,
president and CEO of Xilinx. "Our Platform Studio approach
offers customers the right mix of performance, automation and flexibility
so they can build and simulate complex embedded systems more easily
and faster than ever before possible. This relentless commitment
to saving customers time and engineering resources is without question
a pivotal factor for their success in the competitive global marketplace
today and into the future."
IEC DesignVision Award Program
In keeping with its 60-year mission of bringing the highest quality
and most innovative forms of education to the industry, the IEC
DesignVision Awards recognize leading-edge products and services
in the electronic design and semiconductor industries. The awards
mirror a rich IEC tradition of recognizing innovative technology
in the telecommunications field, another industry in which the IEC
actively provides educational opportunities. DesignVision
2005 Awards were presented to 19 recipients for 10 different
categories.
"As the leader in providing educational opportunities to the
electronic design industry, the IEC is proud to recognize companies
like Xilinx for their ingenuity and service," IEC senior director
John Janowiak said. "Based on these honorees, you can tell
the spirit of innovation that has always fueled the electronic design
and semiconductor industry is still going strong."
The presenter of DesignCon and the DesignVision Awards, the International
Engineering Consortium (www.iec.org),
is a non-profit organization dedicated to catalyzing positive growth
in several industries and their university communities. Since 1944,
the IEC, which is headquartered in Chicago, Ill., has provided high-quality
educational opportunities for industry professionals, academics,
and students. The IEC also produces publications and handles the
affairs of the Electrical and Computer Engineering Department Heads
Associations and Eta Kappa Nu, the honor society for electrical
and computer engineers.
