FOR IMMEDIATE RELEASE
XILINX AND INTELLIGA ANNOUNCE LOW COST AUTOMOTIVE
LIN
BUS SOLUTION USING SPARTAN-3 FPGAS
World's first programmable logic-based solution priced at $0.40*
on Xilinx devices
ESSEX, UK and SAN JOSE, Calif., December 11, 2003 Intelliga Integrated
Design, Ltd. and Xilinx, Inc. (NASDAQ:XLNX) today announced the
immediate availability of low cost, programmable logic-based Local
Interconnect Network (LIN) solutions for Xilinx Spartan®, Virtex®
and CoolRunner® series devices. The solutions include the iLIN
IP core and the iDEV2 CAN, LIN and TTCAN Development Platform and
Starter Kit (iDEV2). Both are offered by new Xilinx AllianceCORE
partner Intelliga Integrated Design, Ltd., of Essex, UK. Automotive
designers can now develop extremely low cost LIN-based systems using
Spartan-3 devices for an effective price of $0.40*.
"The short time to market and flexibility required for LIN-based
systems makes programmable products an excellent fit for this market,"
said Jon Cropley, automotive research analyst at IMS Research, Wellingborough,
UK. "Potential applications for LIN-based systems tend to be
general purpose, non safety critical and require a lower bandwidth.
Examples include mirror, seat adjustment, door, sunroof, rain sensor
and HVAC systems."
The Intelliga iLIN core is a standalone LIN Rev 1.3 compliant design,
which performs all MAC/PHY logical functions and provides a simple
interface to LIN transceiver chips such as the Philips TJA1020.
It provides a full hardware solution that may be implemented in
a Xilinx FPGA or CPLD device without the need for a connected micro-controller
for basic sensor/actuator applications. The combined Intelliga and
Xilinx solution addresses the low-cost requirement for LIN-based
systems, while adding the benefit of reconfigurability.
"Xilinx's range of low cost, programmable logic devices are
an ideal fit for our iLIN technology," said Steve Ede, marketing
director at Intelliga. "The combination of our silicon IP and
Xilinx's extended temperature range programmable devices enables
users to rapidly develop a wide variety of LIN-based products, from
single-chip to multi-channel body control applications."
Intelliga also supplies their own development platform, the iDEV2,
based upon Xilinx's Spartan IIE family of devices. iDEV2 is
offered free of charge to Intelliga IP licensees for the development
of LIN, CAN and TTCAN applications.
Both the iLIN core and the iDEV2 development board are available
immediately for purchase directly from Intelliga. Intelliga also
supports the SignOnce IP License, the industry's first multi-vendor
common license for FPGA-based IP. For additional information on
the Xilinx SignOnce IP License program visit www.xilinx.com/ipcenter/signonce.
