FOR IMMEDIATE RELEASE
XILINX DEPLOYS SYNOPSYS HSPICE FOR
BREAKTHROUGH 10 Gbps SERIAL I/O CIRCUIT SIMULATION
HSPICE Delivers S-Parameter Analysis for Complex High-Frequency
Designs
SAN JOSE, Calif., May 6, 2003 - Synopsys, Inc. (Nasdaq:SNPS), the world
leader in integrated circuit (IC) design software, today announced that
Xilinx, Inc. (Nasdaq:XLNX) has validated HSPICE® for use in its 10
Gbps RocketIO X Multi-Gigabit serial I/O design kit. Recognized
as the de facto industry-standard golden-accuracy circuit simulator, HSPICE
- a component of the analog mixed-signal (AMS) solution within Synopsys'
Verification Platform - now supports directly measured scattering-parameters
(S-parameters) analysis, which is critical to modeling and simulation
of system-level signal integrity effects in high-frequency designs.
The RocketIO design kit supports the new Virtex-II Pro X FPGA
architecture with integrated 10 Gbps RocketIO X transceivers, which was
announced by Xilinx today. Customers under the Xilinx early access program
are currently designing with the RocketIO X Multi-Gigabit serial I/O design
kit using HSPICE.
"We have used HSPICE as one of our prime circuit simulators for years.
The ability to import S-parameters into HSPICE simulation enables system
designers to easily extract S-parameter models using a network analyzer
and to use them for high-frequency system simulations," said Scott
Irwin, engineering director of the Communications Technology Division
at Xilinx. "HSPICE, with S-parameter analysis, is the first simulator
used in our RocketIO X design kit to verify data rates over 10 Gbps, allowing
our customers to accurately design and simulate their state-of-the-art
high-frequency serial I/O interfaces."
HSPICE has long been recognized as the industry standard for highly accurate
circuit simulation of integrated circuit designs. Its advanced algorithms
provide comprehensive simulation and analysis capabilities with high accuracy
and reliable convergence characteristics. HSPICE features the most extensive
support of semiconductor device models, which are certified by all major
semiconductor foundries.
"The importance of HSPICE within advanced circuit simulation flows
is increasing as process geometries continue to shrink," said Antun
Domic, senior vice president and general manager of Synopsys' Nanometer
Analysis and Test business unit. "Working with leading-edge devices
from Xilinx® enables us to continuously improve HSPICE, a cornerstone
of Synopsys' mixed-signal design and verification solution."
About Synopsys' Verification Platform
The Synopsys Verification Platform is a unified environment that provides
high performance and efficiency of interaction among all platform components,
including mixed-HDL simulation, mixed signal, system-level verification,
assertions, verification intellectual property, code coverage, functional
coverage, testbenches and formal analysis. It supports Verilog, VHDL,
mixed-HDL, SystemC and mixed-signal simulation for complex SoC designs.
