FOR IMMEDIATE RELEASE
AVNET DESIGN SERVICES AND XILINX ANNOUNCE COOLRUNNER-II
CPLD EVALUATION KIT
PHOENIX, Ariz., and SAN JOSE, Calif. - March 26, 2002, 2002 - Avnet
Design Services (ADS), the technical arm of Avnet Electronics Marketing,
and Xilinx, Inc., (NASDAQ: XLNX), the leader in programmable logic,
today announced a new evaluation kit for Xilinx Coolrunner-II RealDigital
CPLDs. The CoolRunner-II evaluation kit is platform that demonstrates
the high-speed and ultra-low power capabilities of this new family
of devices. The kit can be used to evaluate various design approaches,
measure actual CPLD operating power consumption, and investigate
the new features of the family, including various I/O standards,
design security, and clocking schemes.
CoolRunner-II Devices Target New Applications
This new combination of ultra-low power and high-performance in
a programmable logic device will address a variety of new communications
and consumer applications. Designers will no longer need to make
trade-offs that sacrifice features for battery lifetime or speed
for low-power. "The Xilinx CoolRunner-II CPLD is the first no-compromise
solution," said Warren Miller, vice president of marketing for Avnet
Design Services.
"Evaluation kits are the quickest and easiest way for designers
to learn about new products and technologies," said Miller. "The
Xilinx CoolRunner-II CPLD kit from Avnet provides new users with
everything they need to evaluate the high speed and low power of
this new family -- software, hardware, documentation and demonstration
examples."
"Seeing is believing for designers looking to hit new combinations
of low-power and high-performance in a CPLD architecture," said
Evert Wolsheimer, general manager and vice president of the Xilinx
CPLD division.. "This new kit is optimized to show the power consumption
and speed of our new CoolRunner-II devices in a variety of applications.
By using dedicated hardware to measure power consumption of the
CoolRunner-II device and by providing enough supporting circuitry
to allow designers to implement meaningful applications, designers
will see for themselves the benefits of our new CPLD family."
Kit Description
The CoolRunner-II evaluation kit contains a printed circuit board
containing the CoolRunner-II XC2C64-VQ100, complete design documentation,
demonstration programs, and a board support package to simplify
application development. The CoolRunner-II evaluation kit, priced
at $149, can be ordered from Avnet Design Services as part number
ADS-XLX-CR2-EVL. Delivery time is two weeks. For more information

About Xilinx CoolRunner-II CPLDs
Xilinx CoolRunner-II RealDigital CPLDs feature the Fast Zero Power
(FZP) design technology that provides both high performance and
ultra low-power consumption and no cost penalty. Using the FZP
all-digital core, CoolRunner-II devices offer a new alternative
to traditional CPLDs that use analog sense amplifiers and consume
much more power.
