XILINX EXTENDS HIGH-END FPGA LEADERSHIP BY SHIPPING
WORLD'S HIGHEST CAPACITY & CAPABILITY FPGA
130nm Virtex-II Pro XC2VP100 FPGA exceeds 400 million transistors
SAN JOSE, Calif., September 16, 2003 - Xilinx, Inc. (NASDAQ:XLNX)
today announced that it is shipping the world's highest capacity
field programmable gate array (FPGA) with 430 million transistors
- the Virtex-II Pro XC2VP100 Platform FPGA. The XC2VP100 represents
the ninth Virtex-II Pro device being shipped today. With over 10,000
worldwide customer engagements, the entire Virtex-II Pro family
has seen rapid adoption in a wide-range of applications in the communications,
networking, storage, instrumentation, and consumer markets.
Benchmarked at over one-third faster than any competitive offering,
the device represents the highest capacity, highest performance
FPGA available today. The new device is manufactured on 130nm, 10-layer
copper CMOS technology on 300mm wafers and delivers 100K logic cells,
8 Megabits of embedded synchronous block RAM, over 400 18x18 DSP
multipliers, and over 1,000 SelectIO pins.
"Xilinx Virtex-II Pro FPGAs provided the ideal design platform
for our MXV320 Intelligent Application Switch," said James
Yu, vice president of business development at MaXXan Systems, a
leading company to ship intelligent storage networking solutions.
"By using the Xilinx technology, we are able to offer our customers
the benefits of a more flexible design than the one using ASICs.
The capacity, performance, and industry-leading features of the
Virtex-II Pro FPGAs enabled significant leaps in our product capabilities,
while at the same time provided dramatic time-to-market advantage
and reduced development costs for end-users."
The XC2VP100 device features 20 independent 3.125 Gbps serial transceivers,
providing an unprecedented 125Gbps of aggregate serial bandwidth
- the highest of any programmable logic device. Combined with Xilinx's
extensive intellectual property (IP) library, the new device supports
serial connectivity standards such as PCI-Express, FibreChannel,
Gigabit Ethernet, XAUI, SerialATA, and Aurora. Additionally,
the device delivers over 1000 DMIPS of embedded compute power, enabled
by two immersed PowerPC® RISC processors.
As a platform for advanced processor-based SOC designs, the entire
Virtex-II Pro family is the first and only FPGA line fully supported
by leading embedded operating systems such as VXWorks, MontaVista
Linux, QNX, and NetBSD. The family is also supported by a comprehensive
set of IP, software and hardware development systems, including
the CoreConnect on-chip interconnect system, over 100 unique
IP cores and reference designs, GNU C Compilers and Debuggers, ChipScopePRO
On-Chip Logic Analysis and Bus Analysis tools, and hardware development
systems including the ML300 series of Embedded Processing Development
Systems.
"This comprehensive set of silicon, tools, and IP enables unprecedented
system design capabilities in a programmable, off-the-shelf logic
chip - capabilities which used to be the exclusive domain of high-end
ASIC design teams," said Erich Goetting, vice president and
general manager of the Advanced Products Division at Xilinx. "With
Virtex-II Pro devices like the XC2VP100, customers can radically
reduce the cost, time, and risk of developing products, when compared
to products developed through high-end ASIC approaches which are
plagued by high NREs, mask costs, and long development times."
