Xilinx Simplifies High-Speed DDR-I Memory Interfacing with
New Turn-Key Design Kit

Provides complete DDR400/PC3200 design solution including tools, boards and free reference designs with guaranteed 200MHz performance in Virtex-II Pro FPGAs

SAN JOSE, Calif., March 9, 2004 – Xilinx Inc. (NASDAQ:XLNX) today announced the immediate availability of the industry's first programmable turn-key DDR400/PC3200 memory solution, a comprehensive, fully hardware characterized resource for system designers interfacing to 200MHz DDR-I SDRAM memory devices. Leveraging the high-performance Virtex-II Pro™ Platform FPGA, the DDR400/PC3200 performance can be easily achieved using mid-speed grade devices, providing substantial cost savings while increasing reliability and reducing time-to-market.

Fully characterized across process, voltage and temperature on hardware platforms for both DIMM and component interface options, the DDR-I memory interface reference design includes innovative patented design techniques providing high design margins to maximize DDR400/PC3200 system design performance. Xilinx® memory solution is designed with a modular approach to provide distinct physical layer and controller blocks, enabling easy migration to different memory types. The DDR400/PC3200 reference design is available in both Verilog and VHDL options for download free of charge. The Virtex-II Pro DDR-I memory interface reference design is flexible to support any device/package combinations. In addition, the DDR-I memory interface can be implemented in any Virtex-II Pro I/O, providing additional flexibility for system designers looking to simplify their PCB designs.

The solution leverages advanced Virtex-II Pro system features such as digital clock managers (DCMs), abundant low skew local clock resources, flexible SelectIO™-Ultra I/O technology (supporting SSTL2, Class I and II I/Os required for DDR-I memory interfaces), programmable DDR I/O banks, and XCITE™ digitally controlled impedance - ideally suited for the clock and data synchronization tasks required to interface to the newest generations of memory technologies.
