XILINX VIRTEX-4 FPGAs WIN "PRODUCT OF THE
YEAR" AWARD FROM
ELECTRONIC PRODUCTS MAGAZINE
World's first multi-platform FPGA family provides
up to 10X better performance/price ratio while reducing power by
50%
SAN JOSE, Calif., January 11, 2005 - Xilinx, Inc. (NASDAQ: XLNX),
the world's leading supplier of programmable logic solutions and
inventor of the FPGA, today announced that its Virtex-4 family of
multi-platform FPGAs received the prestigious "Product of the
Year" Award from Electronic Products magazine. The Xilinx Virtex-4
family was selected by the Electronic Products editorial board among
thousands of products introduced in 2004. Selections are based on
significant advances in technology, a decided innovation in design,
or substantial gain in price-performance. This is the second Product
of the Year award for the Xilinx Virtex Series, following the 2002
award for the company's Virtex-II family.
"Through their new ASMBL architecture, increased use of sophisticated
embedded technology, and a lot of clever circuit design, Xilinx
has endowed its newest version of Virtex FPGAs with increased performance
and density, while dramatically reducing power consumption and cost.
This unique combination promises to propel new design starts in
a broad range of traditional and non-traditional FPGA applications,"
said Jim Harrison, West Coast editor for Electronic Products Magazine.
"The Virtex-4 family, with over 100 technical innovations,
has received an overwhelmingly positive response from system design
engineers. Through this family, built on the industry's most advanced
90nm triple-oxide process, our customers get the tremendous benefits
of twice the performance and density of previous families, at half
the power consumption and price," said Erich Goetting, vice
president and general manager of the Advanced Products Division.
"We're honored to have this accomplishment recognized by Electronic
Products."
About Xilinx Virtex-4 Platform FPGAs
Enabled by the revolutionary ASMBL (Advanced Silicon Modular Block)
architecture and advanced 90nm triple-oxide technology, Virtex-4
FPGAs deliver more options, higher performance and lower power than
any other FPGA family available today. With more than 100 technical
innovations, the Virtex-4 family consists of 17 devices and three
domain-optimized platforms; Virtex-4 LX FPGAs optimized for logic-intensive
designs, Virtex-4 SX FPGAs optimized for high-performance signal
processing, and Virtex-4 FX FPGAs optimized for high-speed serial
connectivity and embedded processing. A multi-platform approach
makes it possible for customers to select the optimal mix of resources
for their application to achieve the highest functionality and breakthrough
performance at the lowest cost. Devices are shipping now. For more
