XILINX NAMED THE SIXTH BEST COMPANY TO
WORK FOR IN AMERICA BY FORTUNE MAGAZINE
No. 6 now in “The 100 Best Companies to Work For” rankings;
only Bay Area high technology company among top 10 companies listed
SAN JOSE, Calif., January 24, 2002 — FORTUNE announced this week that Xilinx, Inc. (NASDAQ:XLNX) was ranked No. 6 on the magazine’s annual list “The Best 100 Companies to Work For.” Xilinx was the only Silicon Valley company
to be among the top ten companies on the list. Last year, the first time Xilinx appeared on the list, the company was ranked No. 14.
“Many Xilinx employees have told me how proud they are to receive this recognition. It speaks as much about the great culture we have created at Xilinx as is does about the quality of people who work here,” said Xilinx
CEO Wim Roelandts.
In announcing the new rankings, FORTUNE weighed how companies reacted to the economic downturn of 2001 and their compassion following the terrorist attacks of September 11.
Although revenue at Xilinx declined by 50 percent over the course of 2001, the company decided employee layoffs would come only as a last resort. As a result of significant cost cutting measures – including-across-the-board
salary cuts for everyone except the lowest paid employees -- Xilinx managed to avoid layoffs.
Xilinx employees sited the company's commitment to local communities and support of employee community involvement through volunteerism as a one of the reasons Xilinx is a great place to work. After the September terrorists
attacks Xilinx made a corporate donation of $1 million to the American Red Cross, and the company matched all employee donations to similar relief efforts. Xilinx employees around the world also organized memorial services to remember
the victims of the attacks.
