TOKYO, Japan, October 27, 2003 - At a press conference held in Tokyo, Japan last week, Xilinx, Inc. (NASDAQ: XLNX) CEO, president, and chairman of the board Wim Roelandts met with reporters to highlight the company's success at providing customers with lead-free packaging solutions. In keeping with the company's commitment to provide environmentally friendly solutions, Xilinx implemented a lead-free program in 1999 and began shipping lead-free products to customers in 2002. Today, Xilinx leads the PLD industry with more than 200 lead-free device/package combinations for its industry-leading Virtex and Spartan Series FPGAs, CPLD and PROM families. Today's news underscores Xilinx long-time commitment to 'earth friendly' solutions. Xilinx is dedicated to proactively developing lead-free products to mitigate potential health and environmental affects and is ahead of global legislative mandates, such as the RoHS (Restriction of the use of certain Hazardous Substances) and the WEEE (Waste Electrical and Electronic Equipment), which are designed to reduce harmful substances found in semiconductor devices.

Broad Lead-free Product Portfolio
Xilinx has developed a comprehensive set of solutions to help customers meet their environmental protection goals with the lowest possible risk and costs. Currently, Xilinx supports lead-free packages for its leading high-end and high-volume product families, including Virtex-II, Virtex-II Pro, Spartan-IIE, and Spartan-3 FPGAs, XC9500XL/XV and CoolRunner-II CPLDs, and Platform Flash PROMs. Additionally, Xilinx will support all future FPGA, CPLD, and PROM product families recommended for new designs with a full-complement of lead-free and standard packaging options.

Lowest Risk, Lowest Cost Path to Lead-Free Solutions
To ensure customers the lowest cost, lowest risk path to lead-free manufacturing, Xilinx also provides backward-compatible solutions to streamline customer conversion to lead-free solutions. Customers can use Xilinx backward-compatible lead-free solutions with standard lead-based products without altering manufacturing flows. This option ultimately reduces customer costs, simplifies the conversion process, and reduces overall risks by maintaining a single set of device part numbers and inventory during the manufacturing transition.

Pricing and availability
Xilinx offers lead-free versions of its key product families including Virtex-II, Virtex-II Pro, Spartan-IIE, and Spartan-3 FPGAs as well as XC9500XV, XC9500XL, CoolRunner, and CoolRunner-II CPLDs, and Platform Flash configuration PROMs. Many device/package combinations are available today, with more in qualification.
