AT 18th INTERNATIONAL CONFERENCE ON VLSI DESIGN (2005)
Virtex-4 multi-platform FPGA family on proven
90nm process technology
achieves breakthrough system performance
What: Joint platinum sponsorship of the 18th International
Conference on VLSI Design (2005) by Xilinx, Inc. the world's largest
supplier of programmable logic solutions, and its R&D partner
in India, CMC Ltd., a Tata Group company and a leading provider
of embedded and real-time solutions.
When: January 3-5, 2005
Where: Taj Bengal, Kolkata, India
Xilinx Banquet Speech
January 3, 7:00 p.m.
"Comparison of FPGAs and ASICs for SoC Applications"
Rich Sevcik, Executive Vice President, Xilinx, Inc.
Sevcik's speech will cover the technological evolution and industry
trend towards "System-on-a-Chip" or SoC applications.
Sevcik will review the various factors that designers must consider,
including design time, performance, integration, cost and density,
in their choice between an ASIC or FPGA for their SoC applications.
He will describe how innovations in programmable logic have enabled
platform FPGAs to compete with ASICs to address SoC design requirements
- most notably, with the recent introduction of Virtex-4, the world's
fastest, most flexible FPGA for DSP, embedded and connectivity applications.
Using Virtex-4 multi-platform FPGAs, designers can achieve breakthrough
system level and logic performance at the lowest cost, including:
up to 43 percent higher logic performance, 2X higher memory bandwidth,
3X higher serial I/O bandwidth, 3X higher DSP performance, and 3X
higher embedded processing performance.

control logic, 1 Gbps I/Os with integrated ChipSync source synchronous
technology on every I/O, and Xtreme DSP Slices.
About The International Conference on VLSI Design
The International Conference on VLSI Design was started in 1985,
as a small workshop at IIT Madras, under the visionary guidance
of Dr. Vishwani Agrawal of Auburn University, and Prof. H.N. Mahabala
of IIT Madras. From this small start, it has grown into a leading
international conference on VLSI design, which draws around 700
attendees, every year, from India and abroad. The proceedings are
printed by the IEEE Computer Society Press, USA. The conference
is dedicated to all aspects of integrated circuit design, technology,
and related computer-aided design (CAD). More information can be
found at http://www.isical.ac.in/~vlsi2005/index.html.
