Xilinx Partners with CMC Limited
to Establish
Technology Development Centre in India
HYDERABAD, INDIA, February 25, 2004 – Xilinx,
Inc. (NASDAQ: XLNX), the world's largest supplier of programmable
logic solutions with 2003 calendar year revenues of US$ 1.3 billion,
today announced a strategic partnership with CMC Limited, a Tata
Group company and leading provider of embedded and real-time hardware
and software solutions in India.
The new Xilinx-CMC India Development Centre (XIDC) in Hyderabad
is being established to develop field programmable gate array (FPGA)
solutions targeted at high-growth markets, such as digital consumer
electronics, automotive and communications.
At today’s press conference announcing the XIDC, Xilinx Chairman
and CEO Wim Roelandts said, “India is world-renowned for its
tremendous technical talent. As Asia becomes the centre for digital
consumer electronics, it’s a natural next step for Xilinx
to establish a technology development centre in partnership with
a high-calibre company such as CMC Limited. Our strategy is to invest
resources in high growth areas proportional to sales and revenues.
We’re confident that the XIDC will help us to expand our presence
in the Asia-Pacific region.”
Asia Pacific and Japan already account for more than 35 percent
of the company’s total revenues in fiscal year 2003, up from
13 percent just four years ago.
CMC Limited Managing Director and CEO R. Ramanan added, “We’re
partnering with Xilinx to develop leading-edge FPGA technology solutions.
CMC is totally committed to the success of the XIDC, and confident
that the natural synergies between our companies will ensure success
and valuable contributions for years to come.”
The Xilinx-CMC India Development Centre is one of Xilinx’
first research and development facility in Asia Pacific and is expected
to grow to 300 employees within the next several years. The new
development centre is housed within an independent facility on the
CMC campus in Hyderabad. Xilinx will provide management support
to the centre, and CMC will set up and run the XIDC with fully dedicated
technology development and managerial staff.
India has a large pool of technical talent and a well-developed
and enforced Intellectual Property protection system. It provides
an excellent environment for Xilinx to tap into the growing market
opportunities in the region,” said Akshya Prakash, managing
director of CMC Xilinx IDC. “We will provide exciting opportunities
that should attract the best engineering talent in the country.
Our partnership with CMC, given their many years of experience in
FPGA, hardware and system designs, will further strengthen Xilinx’
global R&D capabilities.”
CMC is a leader in providing embedded and real-time solutions to
worldwide clients in varied application areas – telecom/ datacom,
industrial, consumer, automotive, defence/aerospace. CMC became
a part of the Tata Group following the acquisition of majority equity
