series of in-depth technical workshops focused on real-world design
examples and new product introductions playing a critical role in
the new era of programmable systems design. The one-day event, which
runs from October 19th to December 1st in 19 cities throughout the
world, will showcase the company's breakthrough Virtex-4 Platform
solution with full-day technical sessions dedicated to each digital
domain, including DSP, embedded processing, connectivity, and logic.

Programmable World 2004 Highlights Include:
- Digital Signal Processing Track: A full day of training
and insights into designing high-performance DSP systems for Platform
FPGA solutions. This track will look at the FPGA Platform Radio
as the enabler for 3G and 4G communication systems; accelerating
productivity through new DSP design techniques for FPGAs; harnessing
the power of the new Virtex-4 XtremeDSP Slice to obtain the highest
DSP performance and productivity, and speeding high-performance,
real-time Video/Imaging applications with FPGAs and DSPs.
- Connectivity Track: An introduction to the new high-speed
serial connectivity capabilities of Virtex-4 Platform FPGAs and
a deep look into design practices, tools and applications solving
the physical challenges for data rates as high as 11 Gbps. This
track will delve into designing serial backplanes with Xilinx
solutions; addressing integrated FPGA/PCB system design challenges
(Mentor Graphics); multi-gigabit serial channel interconnect requirements
(1 Gbps-10+Gbps); successful 10 Gbps backplane design using Xilinx
FPGAs (Ansoft/Xilinx); and technical design examples using next-generation
SONET/SDH networking solutions.
- Embedded Processing Track: Comprehensive coverage of
Xilinx and partners' embedded processing solutions and design
tools. This track will teach implementation and platform debug
of a dual PowerPC system with a floating point co-processor; Fast
Simplex Link -SW accelerations using the Xilinx MicroBlaze soft
processor for multi-channel data acquisition; accelerating development
of RTOS-based embedded systems with integrated embedded tools;
and Ethernet solutions for Xilinx processors.
- Logic Track: An in-depth look at new tools, techniques
and platform FPGA features for meeting functionality and timing
requirements quickly and easily. This track will focus on dramatically
accelerating in-circuit debug of FPGA-based systems (Agilent);
design techniques for maximum performance and minimum area in
Virtex-4 Platform FPGAs; Virtex-4 memory interface solutions;
secret recipes for Virtex-4 (Synplicity); and low-cost design
techniques illustrated in Spartan-3.
- Technical Demonstrations: An opportunity to meet with
key programmable systems leaders such as Agilent, Mentor Graphics,
Synplicity and Texas Instruments, as well as other providers of
programmable systems solutions comprising silicon, tools, software,
IP, services and support. The exhibit floor will showcase the
latest technology and innovations that for boosting system performance
