XILINX JUMPS TO NO. 5 ON FORTUNE MAGAZINE'S ANNUAL
LIST OF "100 BEST COMPANIES TO WORK FOR"
Xilinx ranks highest among all high technology
companies in fifth appearance on prestigious list
SAN JOSE, Calif., January 11, 2005 - Xilinx, Inc. (NASDAQ: XLNX),
the world's leading supplier of programmable chips, today announced
it has jumped to No. 5 on FORTUNE Magazine's annual listing of "100
Best Companies to Work For," ranking highest among all high
technology electronics companies. For the fourth year in a row,
Xilinx has placed in the top ten among America's elite corporations.
The 2005 edition of this year's list will be published in the January
24 issue of FORTUNE, available now at www.fortune.com,
and on newsstands January 17.
A culture of innovation was cited by the magazine as a key reason
for the company's number 5 ranking this year. Notably, one in every
five Xilinx engineers holds a patent. The survey also recognized
the company's compensation plan, which includes stock options for
each employee and a 2004 bonus payout that averaged 9.2 percent
of employees' salaries.
"This is a magnificent tribute to our employees, who make Xilinx
a great place to work every day - not only in America where the
survey is administered, but throughout the world, " said Wim
Roelandts, Chairman and CEO of Xilinx. "I'm gratified that
we've been on the list in both good times and bad - and especially
during challenging economic times for our industry when a company's
true character is put to the test."
The "100 Best Companies to Work For" list is compiled
for FORTUNE by Robert Levering and Milton Moskowitz of the Great
Place to Work Institute in San Francisco, based on two criteria:
an evaluation of the policies and culture of each company, and the
opinions of the company's employees. The latter is given more weight,
Two-thirds of the total score comes from employee responses to a
57-question survey which goes to a minimum of 350 randomly selected
employees from each company. It asks about things such as attitudes
towards management, job satisfaction, and camaraderie within the
organization. The remaining one-third of the score is based on an
evaluation of each company's demographic makeup, pay and benefits
programs, and culture. Companies are scored in four areas: credibility
(communication to employees), respect (opportunities and benefits),
fairness (compensation, diversity), and pride/camaraderie (philanthropy,
celebrations).
