FOR IMMEDIATE RELEASE
INDUSTRY VETERAN HITOSHI YOSHIZAWA APPOINTED
PRESIDENT OF XILINX K.K.
San Jose, Calif, April 12, 2005 - Xilinx, Inc. (NASDAQ: XLNX) today
announced that Hitoshi Yoshizawa, 57, has been promoted to president
of the company's Japan subsidiary, Xilinx, K.K. (Shinjuku-ku,Tokyo)
from his current position as director of sales for consumer and
industrial market segments. Mr. Yoshizawa succeeds Motihiro Kitajima,
61, who will continue as chairman of the board for Xilinx, K.K.
The appointment will become official when the annual Xilinx, K.K.
board meeting and general meeting of stockholders takes place on
May 27, 2005.
In his new role, Mr. Yoshizawa will build upon a foundation established
over the past several years by a seasoned management team led by
Mr. Kitajima as chairman and president of Xilinx, K.K. Mr. Yoshizawa's
charter is to strengthen the long-term service and support structure
for Japanese customers at Xilinx, K.K. as a key strategy for expanding
adoption of the company's flagship programmable logic and system-level
solutions. The October 2004 announcement of a foundry agreement
between Xilinx and Toshiba is symbolic of the investment Xilinx
is making in the Japan market to ensure a steady supply of leading
edge Xilinx products for delivery to customers worldwide, and specifically
in Japan.
"The Japan team has played an essential role in the diversification
of Xilinx' business over the past several years, particularly in
digital consumer electronics where product differentiation and personalization
are paramount," said Wim Roelandts, Xilinx chairman, president
and CEO. "Under Yoshizawa-san's leadership we expect to take
things to the next level, driving mainstream adoption of low-cost
FPGAs into higher volume applications in Japan, particularly in
digital consumer and automotive."
Japan represents a growing proportion of Xilinx worldwide sales,
with 14 percent of total sales in the third quarter of fiscal 2005
(October-December 2004) and a corporate objective to increase this
to 20 percent.
"I'm honored to assume a greater role in paving the future
for Xilinx in the Japan market at such a pivotal time for the electronics
industry," added Mr. Yoshizawa. "Our customers are facing
ever growing demand for shorter development and product lead times,
small-lot production of a wider range of different product items,
higher functionality, and lower prices. The price, performance and
flexibility benefits of FPGAs and CPLDs are ideally suited to meet
these demands. Our intention is to complement our silcon, software
and IP solutions with services that are increasingly fine-tuned
to meet customer needs and to contribute to the expansion of their
businesses in Japan."
Mr. Yoshizawa brings more than 30 years experience in the electronics
industry to his new position at the helm of Xilinx, K.K. Prior to
joining Xilinx, Mr. Yoshizawa served in a variety of executive positions
with NEC Corp. from 1972 to 2003 in Japan and the U.S. His most
recent post was as general manager of the ASIC business units for
NEC Electronics, Inc. Previously, his experience at NEC Corp. spanned
positions in semiconductor EDA development, ASIC customer field
support, and business development within the ASIC and Communication
ASSP. Since April 2002, he ran ASIC business units as General Manager.
He is a graduate of Waseda University (Tokyo, Japan) with a Doctor
of Engineering degree.
