FOR IMMEDIATE RELEASE
XILINX DEMONSTRATES VIDEO-OVER-IP SOLUTION USING VIRTEX-4 TECHNOLOGY
AT IBC 2005
September 8, 2005
| What: |
Xilinx, Inc. (NASDAQ:XLNX), the world's leading programmable logic supplier, will be demonstrating an FPGA-based Video-over-IP solution at the International Broadcasting Conference (IBC) in Amsterdam beginning September 9 2005. The Virtex ™-4 family of FPGAs provides the performance and the embedded functions required in Video-over-IP applications. The demonstrations will include several newly developed Virtex-4 FX family validation and demonstration boards for video, audio, and Ethernet. Additionally there will be a demonstration of a single FPGA H.264 Encoder solution, using the H.264 Encoder IP developed by 4i2I Communications. |
| When: |
September 9-13, 2005 |
| Where: |
RAI Convention Center, Amsterdam, Netherlands (Hall 4 – Stand Number 4.436) |
Xilinx Booth (Hall 4 – Stand Number 4.436) Demonstrations:
- Video-over-IP: This demonstration will directly take in a DVB-ASI source and encapsulate the data into 1 Gbps (Gigabit per second) Ethernet packets. The reverse path accepts Ethernet encapsulated packets and extracts the MPEG Transport Stream (TS) for decode and display on a high resolution monitor. This will demonstrate end-to-end functionality from an incoming DVB-ASI source, decoded and encapsulated as IP packets, transmitted and received over Ethernet coax then encoded back to DVB-ASI for display on the high resolution monitor. This demonstration will highlight the powerful features of the Virtex-4 silicon that are ideally suited for Video-over-IP solutions.
The Xilinx ® Virtex-4 solution has unique advantages for Video-over-IP applications such as the embedded PowerPC ™ 405 processor with 16K Bytes of program cache and 16K bytes of data cache, and the embedded Tri-mode Ethernet MAC. One advantage of these embedded integral pieces of the solution is the space within the device to accommodate advanced Video-over-IP features such as multiple transport streams, timing, jitter and latency management, MPEG encode and decode functions, out of order Ethernet packet manipulation and Forward Error Correction (FEC). In addition, the user benefits from lower power and higher performance using diffused hard IP vs. soft IP as well as PowerPC405 cache memories instead of precious RAM blocks.
- Virtex-4 HD/SDI Hardware Validation Platform: The demonstrations will include several newly developed Virtex-4 FX family validation and demonstration boards for video, audio, and Ethernet. The Xilinx ML471 Virtex-4 FX Serial Digital Video Platform board supports serial digital video formats SMPTE 292M, SMPTE259M, DVB-ASI and AES/EBU Audio. The ML471 SDV board can operate in stand alone fashion or can be mounted as a “personality module” within a 1U 19 inch rack mount, ML410 development system providing all the normal computer peripherals, memory, and disk drives.
- HD H.264 single FPGA solution: This demonstration will show a High Definition H.264 Encoder solution using IP developed by 4i2i Communications. The solution leverages the architectural advantages of the Virtex-4 FPGA to enable a small footprint High Definition H.264 solution.
- PCI Express: This demonstration will show the tremendous performance advantages of the PCI Express interface using Xilinx FPGA technology. Four simultaneous streams of broadcast video content coming directly across a PCI Express interface will be displayed.
