Guidelines for Creating Graphics for Xcell Publications

Please feel free to include high-resolution bitmap or vector files in your article, embedded at the end. Our art director will place the images near their in-text reference during page layout. Each graphic must have a descriptive caption (a complete sentence or a phrase), and you must reference the graphic somewhere in the article.

Bitmap Images
Bitmap files would include images such as photos, screen captures, and rasterized illustrations. These files should be 300 dpi and large enough to read clearly. If possible, they should be able to span two columns, or six inches. A six-inch-wide graphic is equal to 1,800 pixels.

Our art director prefers bitmap images in RGB or CMYK color mode saved as .jpg (highest quality), .eps, or .tif file formats, with file extensions included in the file name. Please do not use .gif files or text box images, which are not of an acceptable quality for printing. Also, upscaling the images from low resolution to high resolution will not work, as it only enlarges the pixel size and not the quality.

Vector Images
Vector images include illustrations created in a vector drawing program such as Adobe Illustrator™, Corel Draw™, or Aldus™ Freehand. Our art director prefers vector images in CYMK color mode saved as .eps or .ai file formats. The type of file should be editable, without outlines.
