Project Navigator - How do I point to the Synplify or Synplify Pro executable?

Within Foundation ISE Project Navigator, how do I point to the Synplify executable? How does Project Navigator choose which Synplicity executable to use when multiple versions are installed or pointed to in the PATH environment variable?

In Project Navigator, you can point to the desired Synplify/Pro executable by selecting Edit -> Preferences, and then choosing the Integrated Tools tab. Use the browse buttons to select the desired executable and directory path.

By default: On Windows platforms

The version of Synplicity used in ISE is controlled by the following registry key:

Synplify versions 6.1 and later write the registry key "HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINE/SOFTWARE/Synplicity/currentversion" that points to the Synplify executable; Project Navigator uses this to determine the location of Synplify.

To edit this key, follow these steps:

1. Select Start -> Run, and type "regedit<ENTER>" in the command box to open the registry editor.

2. Select the "HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINE/SOFTWARE/Synplicity/currentversion" directory.

3. In this directory, change the path so that it corresponds to the directory in which the desired version of Synplify or Synplify Pro software is located.

NOTE: If you change these settings in the registry, you must restart ISE for the changes to take effect.

To utilize the ISE/Synplify flow, use Synplify version 6.1 or later.

By default: On Solaris or Linux platforms

ISE looks for Synplify in the path; it does not use any kind of registry or ".ini file" setting. Set the PATH variable so that the desired version of Synplify appears first. In the following example, Synplify 7.2 is called from Project Navigator.

# The Xilinx environment is set up for Solaris and PATH points to two installed Synplify tools sets.

# ISE will use the first one that is listed in the PATH variable.

setenv XILINX /tools/xilinx/8_2i

setenv PATH ${XILINX}/bin/sol:${PATH}

setenv LD_LIBRARY_PATH ${XILINX}/bin/sol:/usr/openwin/lib:/usr/lib:/tools/x11r5/sun5/lib

setenv PATH ${PATH}:/tools/synplicity/synplify/synplify_72/bin

setenv PATH ${PATH}:/tools/synplicity/synplify/synplify_71/bin

setenv SYNPLICITY_LICENSE_FILE 4500@licenses

sol58% echo $PATH
