Description

Keywords: CORE Generator, COREGen, multiplier, Verilog, XL, warning, part, select, out, range, XilinxCoreLib, mult_gen_v2_0.v, mult_gen_v3_0.v, mult_gen_v4_0.v, mult_gen_v5_0.v

Urgency: Standard

General Description:
I am using the CORE Generator multiplier (v2, v3, v4, or v5). When I attempt to compile code in Verilog XL, the following warnings occur:

"Warning! MS index in part-select is out of range
[Verilog-MSPOR]
"XilinxCoreLib/mult_gen_v2_0.v", 1287: store[(C_BAAT * (no_of_cycles - 1)) - 1:C_BAAT * (no_of_cycles - 2)]"

"Warning! LS index in part-select is out of range
[Verilog-LSPOR]
"XilinxCoreLib/mult_gen_v2_0.v", 1355: intA[C_A_WIDTH - 1:C_A_WIDTH - C_OUT_WIDTH]"

"Warning! LS index in part-select is out of range
[Verilog-LSPOR]
"XilinxCoreLib/mult_gen_v2_0.v", 1359: intB[C_B_WIDTH - 1:C_B_WIDTH - C_OUT_WIDTH]"

"Warning! LS index in part-select is out of range
[Verilog-LSPOR]
"XilinxCoreLib/mult_gen_v2_0.v", 1451: intA[C_A_WIDTH - 1:C_A_WIDTH - C_OUT_WIDTH]"

"Warning! LS index in part-select is out of range
[Verilog-LSPOR]
"XilinxCoreLib/mult_gen_v2_0.v", 1455: intB[C_B_WIDTH - 1:C_B_WIDTH - C_OUT_WIDTH]"

If the code is compiled in ModelSim, no warnings are produced.

Solution

This warning is issued when Verilog-XL is used. The warning does not appear with other Verilog simulation tools such as MTI, VCSi, and NC-Verilog.

Although a large number of these warning messages may be reported, the models are functional and will not affect the simulation results. Please ignore the warning messages. If you have access to other simulation tools, we recommend that you use other simulators so as to avoid the multiple warnings.
