4.1i Install - When installing ISE on a Solaris machine, the CD appears to be blank.

General Description:
When I attempt to install the ISE CD on a Solaris machine, the CD appears to have no data on it.

Solution

This problem has been seen on new Solaris 5.8 machines, as well as some 5.7/2.7 machines with updated OS patches.

Please contact your IT administrator and perform the following steps:

1. Log in as "root."

2. Eject the CD-ROM, and remove it. Push the tray back in.

3. Type: /etc/rc2.d/S92volmgt stop

4. Type: ps -aef | grep vold --- make sure vold is not running; if it is, kill it.

5. Type: cd /cdrom

6. Type: ls -al --- if you see any files there, remove them with the command "rm -rf *".

7. Type: cd /

8. Type: mount -F hsfs -o ro /dev/dsk/cxtxdxsx /cdrom. By default, CD-ROMs are on target 6, so you can use "c0t6d0s0" instead of "cxtxdxsx."

9. Place the CD-ROM back in the drive.

10. Type: ls -al /cdrom -- you should now see the data on the CD.
