5.2.x PPR - abnormal program termination: memory protection fault in Windows95 (Win 95)

In windows95, PPR might give you the following error when trying to route a design:

PPR: Abnormal program termination: memory protection fault

There are a couple of things to try in this situation. One solution that worked for me is as follows:

Force Windows95 to allocate memory for command.com

In windows95, click on My Computer. Open Ms-dos_6. Find the command.com icon and _right_ click on it. When the pop-up menu appears, click on properties. Next click on the memory tab in the properties window. Set the Extended(XMS) memory setting to 1024. Also be sure that "uses HMA" is checked. All other selections should be set to "auto". Click on apply and OK. Then reboot Win95 and try running ppr again.

For maximum DOS Memory in an MS-DOS session, add the line:

to the [386Enh] section of the system.ini file.
