4.1i ISE - Errors appear when CoolRunner-II packages are implemented with Auto-FG and Auto-CS Packages selected

Description

Keywords: CoolRunner-II, CoolRunner2, translate, FG, CS, auto select

Urgency: Standard

General Description:
When I implement a CoolRunner-II design, the following message appears if the select device is Auto-CS XC2C000:

"Release 4.1i - X9K/XPLA Optimizer/Partitioner E.30
Copyright (c) 1995-2001 Xilinx, Inc. All rights reserved.
Error: CPLD - The device name XC2C**-CS* is invalid. Please specify a correct device name, e.g. XC95108-7-PQ160.
Tcl _cpldfit.tcl detected a return code of '2' from program 'cpldfit -f _cpldfit.rsp <design_name>.ngd'

Done: failed with exit code: 0001."

If the selected device is Auto-FG XC2C000, ISE will report a similar error message:

"Release 4.1i - X9K/XPLA Optimizer/Partitioner E.30
Copyright (c) 1995-2001 Xilinx, Inc. All rights reserved.
ERROR:Cpld - The device name XC2C**-FG* is invalid. Please specify a correct device name, e.g. XC95108-7-PQ160.
Tcl _cpldfit.tcl detected a return code of '2' from program 'cpldfit -f _cpldfit.rsp <design_name>.ngd'

Done: failed with exit code: 0001."

Solution

This error message occurs because there are no CoolRunner-II device package combinations available in the 4.1i release for either FG or CS packages.

FG packages for CoolRunner-II will be supported after the first part of the 2002 calendar year. There no current plans to manufacture CoolRunner-II devices in CS package types.

This problem is fixed in the latest 4.1i Service Pack, available at:
http://support.xilinx.com/support/techsup/sw_updates
The first service pack containing the fix is 4.1i Service Pack 2.
