*Obsolete* 4.1i SP3 iMPACT - "ERROR:iMPACT:8 - Error of type 'Syntax Error' encountered while parsing BSDL file"

Keywords: iMPACT, Tunda Powerspan, BSDL, parsing

Urgency: Standard

General Description:
When I add certain non-Xilinx device BSDL files to a JTAG Chain, iMPACT reports the following error:

"ERROR:iMPACT:8 - Error of type 'Syntax Error' encountered while parsing BSDL file."

This problem is similar to the one noted in (Xilinx Answer 13488), and it will be fixed in the next major software release.

To work around this issue, do not specify a BSDL or bit file for the device; instead, specify an arbitrary device name and the instruction register (IR) length.

The IR length can be found on the following line in the non-Xilinx BSDL file:

attribute INSTRUCTION_LENGTH of [device name] : entity is [length];
