What is the approximate power consumption for the 10 Gigabit Ethernet MAC Core?
The table below contains estimated power numbers from Xpower 6.1.01i using the 10 Gigabit Ethernet MAC v3.0 Core with a VCD file that tests the core under various conditions:
Dynamic power removes the quiescent power of the device. This is a more realistic power estimate of the core itself which is extremely useful when estimating power of the entire design of multiple cores rather than including the quiescent power of the device itself.
Note that the default COREGen options were used for each interface. Also, there are IOBs on the client-side signals that add unnecessary power to the design. When the core is implemented into the user's entire design, the client-side signals would not go to IOBs, but instead would go to other logic within the FPGA.
