2.1 MicroBlaze - When the Insight XC2V1000 board is connecting to the XMD stub, the connection hangs, and an error is reported

Keywords: XMD, Insight Board, local, host

Urgency: Standard

General Description:
When I connect to the XMD STUB on the Insight Virtex-II MicroBlaze board, the connection hangs, and the following error message is generated in MB-GDB debugger:

"localhost:1234: Invalid argument"

"GDB cannot connect to the target board using localhost:1234.
Verify that the board is securely connected and, if necessary, modify the port setting with the debugger preferences."

These problems are specific to the Insight Virtex-II board.

Ensure that the dip switches under the seven-segment LEDs are set to "ON". The reset to the microprocessor is actually on Dip Switch 1, which must be ON for MicroBlaze to come out of reset. (By default, the dip switches are set to "OFF".) The reset is not connected to the RESET momentary switch, but rather to the dip switch.

For a list of items to check when connecting to the XMD stub, please see (Xilinx Answer 13687).
