4.2i FPGA Editor - When I select the PROBES button in FPGA Editor, I cannot choose the pin to which the probe is locked

Description

General Description:

When I select the PROBES button in FPGA Editor, I cannot choose the pin to which the probe is locked. I was able to select this pin in previous software versions -- what can I do to select this pin in the current software?

Solution

To select the pin to which the probe is locked, go to Tools -> Probe and select the net and pin locations.

For more information, please also see (Xilinx Answer 14170).

You may modify the FPGA Editor PROBES button so that the user is prompted for the pin number. Do this by editing "fpga_editor.ini" in the %xilinx%/data directory, adding the following statements:

unbutton probes

button probes "post probes"

button autoprobe "probe selected"

This will change the functionality of the PROBES button so that a "Probes" dialogue box is opened. It will also add a new button called "Autoprobe" that will automatically route a probe to the currently selected net and pull it out to an automatically selected pin.

This same functionality will be included in the next major software release (5.1i).
