Install - My Windows XP machine crashes and displays a blue screen after I install the MultiLINX driver as part of the 4.2i software

General Description:

I am using Windows XP. When I install 4.2i with the MultiLINX driver, my system crashes with a blue screen, and I cannot boot up.

Windows XP was not available when the 4.2i software was released, so this software version was not tested on this Windows platform. Xilinx recommends that you do not install the MultiLINX driver on these systems. (Please see (Xilinx Answer 12696) for more information.)

If you have already installed these drivers and your system crashes, you may use the Windows XP recovery console to access the system in an MS-DOS-style text console. (This recovery console may be installed on the hard drive when the system is functioning normally, or it can be run from the Windows XP installation CD.) For further information, please see the following Microsoft Knowledge Base article:

Once the recovery console is started, find and delete the following files (located in the %SYSTEMROOT%\system32\ directory):

1. mltlnx.sys

2. mltlnx.inf
