4.2isp3 iMPACT STAPL - Pulsing RESET during configuration leaves an XC18V00 PROM in ISP mode; attempts to reconfigure using a STAPL file fail

Description

Keywords: RESET, ISP, mode, XC19V00, 18V00, STAPL, JAM, configuration

Urgency: Standard

General Description:
When I pulse RESET while configuring a PROM using a JAM player, the device remains in ISP mode. If I attempt to reprogram the PROM using an STAPL file generated in the 4.1i/4.2i iMPACT software, the process will fail.

(NOTE: This is not a problem when the PROM is programmed directly via the 4.1i/4.2i iMPACT Programmer.)

Solution

STAPL file generation will be corrected to avoid this state in the next major software release (5.1i).

Meanwhile, you may work around the issue in two ways:

1. Take the XC18V00 out of ISP mode by power cycling the XC18V00 or by issuing an alternate command via the iMPACT software (e.g., BYPASS).

2. Comment out the following portion of the STAPL file:

' // Validating chain...
POSTIR 0 ;
PREIR 0 ;
POSTDR 0 ;
PREDR 0 ;
IRSCAN 8, $ff
, COMPARE $01
, $e3
, X;
IF (!X) THEN GOTO F;
POSTIR 0 ;
PREIR 0 ;
PREDR 0 ;
POSTDR 0 ;

Removing this portion will take the device out of ISP mode, and configuration will work normally.
