5.1i sp2, XPower - Reported power consumption is far greater after Service Pack 2 is installed

Description

Keywords: Power, VCCO, ICCO, DCI, increase, XPower, Service, Pack, 2, SP2, up, rise

Urgency: Standard

General Description:
After I install 5.1i Service Pack 2, the power report generated by XPower shows far greater power consumption for VCCO than existed with Service Pack 1 or earlier software. What is the reason for this?

Solution

In 5.1i Service Pack 2, a fix that corrects the DCI power calculation was implemented. (Please see (Xilinx Answer 15268) for more information.)

Designs that use DCI will report a difference in the estimated power. This difference depends upon the number of I/Os that are configured to use DCI, and it can be very large (over 5x the original estimate has been seen in designs that use a large number of I/Os with DCI).

For this reason, Xilinx recommends that all Virtex-II DCI users, rerun XPower when 5.1i Service Pack 2 or later is used.
